Born in the highlands of Scotland and in 1975 immigrated to Canada. I have always had a passion for running and to date have completed numerous personal goals including 74 Marathons - Boston, 4 times, 15 Ultra marathons and the ultimate 100 mile road race. I am hoping to run Boston in 2010 to reach the 75 total. Although I have never won a marathon, I understand what it takes to believe in your dream and achieve that dream through perseverance and hard work. My motto is to "believe in your self"!

Also known as "Philly the Coach" I have over the years made efforts to be more involved in the local community - especially here in Whitby. Since 1980 I have been a major influence and support for the following local groups and events;

Co-founder of the Whitby Tigers running club (1980)
Co-founder of the Whitby Road Runners (1995)
Co-founder of the Philly's Roosters (2004)
Founder of the new W-I-N Marathon (Whitby International North Marathon)

This has been a dream of mine to bring a Marathon to the Durham region. We live in an excellent community and there is a clear view of fit and healthy people out in the community.

I also have a wonderful family including two daughters, two grandchildren and two son-in-laws.
